Marguerite Bourgeoys Cultural Centre
In 1653, Marguerite Bourgeoys, a young woman from Troyes abandoned everything, her city, her country, her family and her contacts and left for Ville-Marie in New France (Canada). She was the first teacher in Ville-Marie, which was to become Montreal, an apostle of the Gospel and the French language and a pioneer of social work and founder of the congregation of Notre Dame. Marguerite Bourgeoys was called the Colony Mother by all. |
Through engravings and objects and photos of the sites, the Marguerite Bourgeoys Cultural Centre of Troyes retraces the missionary life and the apostolic works of this illustrious woman of Troyes, particularly prior to her departure for Canada. She was canonised by Jean Paul II on October 31st, 1982.

The Grande Malterie de Champagne (malting) |
 |
Situated in Rue de la Gare, the Malterie de Champagne malting was founded in 1833 by the Bonette brothers.
Its main activity consisted of transforming barley into malt (used in the manufacture of beer and whisky), with the help of a soaking procedure enabling artificial germination . |
During the Second World War, the Malterie, or malting, was under great pressure. Apart from the fact that the growth of barley dropped due to the rigorous quotas imposed by the Germans which caused a loss of 50% of its activity,, it was affected by two aerial bombardments (1st and 30th May 1944). Part of the buildings and machines, all the roofs, doors, windows and walls had to be refurbished. The commune decided in 1995 to immortalise the memory by creating a depository in the old grain stores of the Malterie.
Since 2000 the Museum of the “Ancienne Malterie de Champagne” has been housed here with its presentation of the heritage including post cards, bowls, diplomas, models, paintings and vehicles, illustrating the XX c. thanks to donations by generous families, businesses and friends of the city. The museum was officially opened in 2001. There is a pre-war housing and a 1950’s classroom reconstructed here. There are also craft and industry tools, particularly textile, and agricultural tools with a locotractor and a fireman’s truck from 1935 etc. We would like to draw attention to the fact that, since January 2003, this museum also houses a superb and very rare electric model representing the old engine houses of the French SNCF rail system of the “Eiffel” style destroyed in May 1944. |
Museum open on Sunday from 14:00 hrs – 18:00 hrs
and on reservation during the rest of the week. Entrance free.

| Troyes Military Association (non profit-making organisation)
|
 |
The Troyes Military Organisation,is familiarly known as MAT and is an association of collectors concerned with keeping alive the importance of the military history. The organisation was created in 1986 by its founder Bruno Tabare. |
Installed in the old premises of a public transport company (which seems quite fitting), 2 mins. from the city centre in the Dijon direction, this collection of another kind “deploys” some 65 vehicles of which 44 are armoured and they are all closely or very closely associated with the military world. There are tanks, canons, shells, radios, motors, etc. Among the rare pieces are a Renault UE tracked vehicle, a Berliet CBA, a Sherman, an AMI, an AMX 32, an AMX 13, an AMX 10, a UBL etc. Their particularity is that all almost all vehicles are in perfect working condition, and become stars in their own right during the great national parades such as on July 14, August 25 (date of the liberation of Troyes) and November 11 and also in the making of films.
